At Triangle Design Group, we understand that every successful product starts with a great idea. But taking that idea from concept to a finished product—and beyond—requires careful planning, execution, and collaboration. That’s why we’ve developed a structured, customer-centric approach that guides projects through every phase of their lifecycle, ensuring success at every step.
Phase 0: Initiate – Laying the Foundation for Success
Every project begins with a strong foundation. During the initiation phase, we work closely with customers to define the scope of work, align business objectives, and ensure technical compatibility. Our team assesses resource availability, reviews applicable codes and standards, and produces a detailed Phase 1 proposal for preliminary design and scope definition.
This initiation phase involves business alignment and is generally performed at zero cost to the customer.
Key Deliverables in this Phase Include:
• Scope of work outline
• Resource and business alignment review
• Technical compatibility analysis
• Phase 1 project proposal
By the end of this phase, our customers have a clear roadmap for moving forward with TDG, with well-defined goals and a path to achieve them.
Note that there is a chance that we are not the best fit for your project, or that your project is not a great fit for TDG! We will give you an honest assessment and recommendations for alternative paths.
Phase 1: Define – Turning Vision into a Detailed Plan
The definition phase is where high-level ideas transform into actionable plans. Collaborating with customers, we develop detailed user requirement specifications for hardware and software, identify critical components, and define major hardware make and models. We also produce initial designs such as P&IDs, block diagrams, and conceptual mechanical layouts.
Our Process Includes:
• Review of customer supplied information.
• Reviewing applicable codes and standards.
• Defining chemical and environmental considerations.
• Developing procurement strategies and project schedules
• Producing proof of concept of specific aspects (if required)
• Produce initial designs such as P&IDs, controls block diagrams, and conceptual mechanical layouts.
• Producing Phase 2 quotation
This phase ensures that every detail is accounted for, paving the way for a seamless transition to design and build.
At this point, we have generally defined what is needed to produce a detailed design. Customers are welcome at this point to take the deliverables out to quote.
Phase 2: Design/Build – Bringing the Vision to Life
With a solid plan in place, the focus shifts to execution. During this phase, our team works on detailed mechanical, electrical, and software designs. From 3D modeling to controls schematics, we ensure that every component meets customer specifications. Procurement, manufacturing engineering, and system integration are all coordinated to deliver a robust final product prototype or short production run.
Key Areas of Expertise Include:
• Mechanical detailed design, including specialty components
• Controls and electrical schematics
• Software development (PLC/HMI)
• Manufacturing engineering and tooling
• Procurement and material management
By combining precision engineering with open customer communication, we deliver results that exceed expectations.
Phase 3: Refine and Maintain – Supporting Products for the Long Term
Our commitment to our customers doesn’t end when the product is delivered. We believe in providing long-term support through lifecycle management, ensuring products remain reliable and competitive. In this phase, we handle engineering change orders, identify obsolete components, and manage field service issues.
Services Include:
• Managing redlines and engineering changes
• Improving work instructions
• Upgrading systems and managing obsolete inventory
• Conducting failure mode analysis (MTBF)
By partnering with customers throughout the product lifecycle, we help extend the value of their investment while ensuring continuous improvement.
